WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM IN UGANDA
In April 2025, we created the first women's empowerment group in Ikoba, Uganda, with the goal of providing women with training so they can generate their own income.
Starting this type of group is not easy; it requires prior planning and constant supervision.
We began meeting with the women of Ikoba on our trip in January, but it wasn't until our second trip in April that we started the project.
Thanks to the help of our local collaborators, we gathered the interested women and explained to them in their dialect what the program would consist of.
The interested women filled out questionnaires that we carefully reviewed to select those who would finally join, as unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to accept them all.
Since April, the women have been receiving sewing classes twice a week, and those who wish can also take English classes on Fridays.
We trust that they will soon be able to start selling their products in local markets, and of course, we will bring some with us on our next trips.
However, this group is much more than a way to generate income.
Our goal is to create a safe space for them, where they can come together and share their daily lives.
The lives of women in Uganda are not easy, but soon these women will have a source of income and a support group that we hope will make them freer and happier.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM IN KENYA
Together with Destiny Gates Foundation, we support two groups of women in Kenya, one in Gatanga and the other in Masai Mara.
In August 2023, together with other volunteers, we proposed to the women to make tote bags with African prints. The project was a complete success, and you can currently find the tote bags in various locations in Spain, from Galicia to Malaga but also in York, UK.
We love collaborating with these two groups because they provide a meeting place for women to share, laugh, and support each other.
