EDUCATION PROGRAM

At Mbele we believe that change begins with education, which is the best tool to develop our full potential. Our goal is to create a project that is part of the community and goes beyond us.

How are we doing it?

With the support of the NGO Rafiki Africa, we want to build a school in the village of Ikoba, in Uganda, a very remote region where practically no children go to school.

In recent years Rafiki Africa has built a clinic that treats dozens of people daily, especially for malaria infections. In December we had the opportunity to visit Ikoba and learn first-hand the reality of these children and we became convinced that school was an immediate need.

Going forward

Building a school is one of the most beautiful projects we can imagine. Give these wonderful children the possibility of learning to read, to write, to understand the world, to ask questions...

An education that allows them to be free, to develop as a person and to find a profession they enjoy.

With your help we can make this a reality and change the lives of hundreds of children!

Ikoba, Uganda

Currently some of the children are going to a "school" made by their parents, which demonstrates the interest of this Ugandan community in providing an education to their children. However, the local NGO ( Kukorra Hamu ) estimates that there are more than 450 uneducated children, so this school, with a single class that is frequently flooded and which only counts with one teacher, does not cover the real need for these children.

The Ikoba school today

Based on previous Rafiki Africa projects, we intend to build a school with 7 classrooms. We want to ensure education from 3 to 16 years old. The school will include a kitchen that will allow us to guarantee a daily meal for all children.

We will also have a common room to hold workshops and talks with community members about malaria prevention strategies, reproductive health and women empowerment. Aditionally, we hope to start classes for adults, since a large part of the population is illiterate.

What do we need to make this project a reality?

1

CONSTRUCTION

The construction of the first 7 classes of the school and the library is budgeted at 60,000E.

The kitchen and latrines will cost around 5,000E each, so the final cost of the work will be approximately 70,000E.

We will update the final costs on the transparency page as soon as we have them.

2

MAINTENANCE

Based on the average salary of teachers (250E per month), the cost of food for each child (10E per month) and the maintenance of the school, the average expense is about 30E per month per child.

20% will be paid for by the parents as long as they can afford it, and Mbele will cover the remaining 80%.

We will detail all payments and the number of children enrolled in Mbele's annual report.
